Focus on OpEx leads to more cloud use

Focus on OpEx leads to more cloud use

Spending on physical security systems is typically high when new. The cloud replaces the local IT infrastructure and thus reduces the acquisition costs for PSIM and video surveillance.

Running costs (OpEx)

We clearly sense that companies increasingly prefer cloud services also in the area of physical security. This gives them more flexibility with the technical infrastructure without having to worry about maintenance or updates.

The advantages of the cost structure in the cloud compared to fixed installations are:

  • No high one-off investments
  • Settlement takes place on an ongoing basis (OpEx)
  • Accounting becomes easier
  • Software is always up to date

Whether this saves costs in the long run compared to the CapEx variant depends on the products and services chosen. It is therefore worthwhile to calculate and compare the total costs over 10 years.

Cost pressure on CFOs

CFOs are under increasing pressure to reduce costs without compromising the bottom line or security.

Therefore, the switch from on-premise solutions (CapEx) to cloud solutions (OpEx) is interesting wherever costs want to be calculated more easily per year and, if necessary, the products can be adapted flexibly.

A smart CFO avoids, if possible, approving high one-off amounts for capital goods if they can also be paid annually. This makes perfect sense when the annual costs are compared to a one-time investment.

PSIM and the Cloud

In the video surveillance segment, the trend is clearly pointing towards the cloud. VSaaS (Video Management Software as a Service) is experiencing double-digit growth.

A similar trend is emerging in the PSIM market, where the costs for servers and IT infrastructure make up a significant part.

easypsim is working on the migration of PSIM (Physical Security Information Management) to the cloud, so that PSIM becomes even more attractive and flexible to monitor multiple locations simultaneously due to the decreasing costs.

Resilience despite cloud connection

For easypsim, system resilience is a top priority, even under difficult conditions (e.g. power or network failure). Therefore, we recommend our customers to combine the advantages of the cloud with the advantages of on-premise solutions to achieve maximum system stability.
